Reinstatement after being struck off the roll

Anyone whose name has been struck off the OIQ’s roll for failing to fulfil one or more of their professional continuing education requirements must follow the instructions below to obtain a reversal of the decision that struck their name from the roll. After this decision has been reversed, individuals in this situation will need to complete the reinstatement process to have their name entered again on the OIQ’s roll.

Instructions for individuals who have been struck off the roll for not completing or reporting the required number of continuing education hours during a reference period.

If this is your situation, you must:

    1. Take the number of mandatory continuing education hours you lacked before your reinstatement.

    2.  Fill out the request form for the reversal of a decision to strike a member from the roll with information that proves that you have taken and, where applicable, successfully completed training activities in the number of hours that you lacked, and include supporting documents as proof.
It should be noted that when an activity includes an evaluation, you must pass it in order to be eligible.

    3. The OIQ will analyze the file and inform you of the decision and, where applicable, the date on which the decision to strike your name from the roll is reversed.

    4. Once you receive confirmation that the training activities prove that you have taken the number of hours of training required to correct your default status, we will refer your file to the OIQ’s Executive Committee (EC), which will issue the decision on your request to reverse the decision to strike your name from the roll.

    5. Approximately 15 days after the EC has completed its review, you will receive an e-mail with this committee’s answer and, where applicable, the steps you will need to take to be reinstated.

Note that in the event that you receive an affirmative decision (reversal of the decision to strike your name from the roll), you must pay a reinstatement fee that equals half of the annual membership dues.

    6. To become a member of the OIQ again, you must complete the reinstatement process on line at https://secure.oiq.qc.ca/Portail/Login.

You will need to meet all the conditions and formalities of the registration process, such as paying the reinstatement fee and, if you work in private practice, holding professional liability insurance that complies with the OIQ's regulation.

    IMPORTANT
Until you are reinstated on the OIQ's roll, we would like to remind you that it is important to consider the consequences of being struck from the roll: In accordance with the Engineers Act, you will no longer be allowed to use the title of “engineer,” its abbreviation “Eng.” or any name, title or designation that suggests that you are an engineer or a member of the OIQ. Likewise, you will no longer be allowed to practice the engineering profession in Québec, subject to the sanctions provided by law. Once you are struck from the OIQ's roll, you will also no longer be eligible for certain plans, such as the group professional liability insurance plan.
