The Board of Directors decided to withdraw the OIQ from the group personal insurance plans that are sponsored by Engineers Canada and offered by Manulife. The plans concerned are those for:
- health (prescription drug) insurance;
- term life insurance;
- disability insurance.
The OIQ’s withdrawal takes effect on the anniversary dates of these plans' contracts, which are:
- March 31, 2018, for the term life insurance plan;
- August 31, 2018, for the disability insurance plan and the health (prescription drug) insurance plan.
This decision was made in line with the OIQ’s desire to refocus on its mission of protecting the public. It is also a response to the concerns expressed by many members in recent years.
