Whatever your field of practice or area of activity, you will undoubtedly experience, as an engineer and professionally speaking, situations that have nothing to do with calculations or drawings. However intangible questions pertaining to ethics and rules of conduct may seem, they are in fact very real and complex.
The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec knows too well the challenge faced by engineers in this regard. Having adopted in 2011 a regulation on mandatory continuing education for its members, the Order introduced September 1st, 2012, a course on professionalism, which was developed to provide members core knowledge in matters of ethics and conduct.
You must have successfully completed this course by May 15th, 2013.

Experience daily professionalism
The content of this professionalism course is divided into four modules, an interactive component that includes videos, simulation exercises, surveys and activities. Follow the Plastik Inc. engineering team (a fictitious company) in scenario-based simulations. The course ends with an assessment test requiring a passing grade.
Online, based on your availability
The online course lasts 2.5 hours. You may however take a break and resume the course at your convenience. The course costs $25, an amount much lower than any other continuing education course currently offered.
To initiate the course, visit the Génie Formation site at the following address: http://formation.oiq.qc.ca/
and register on the home page.
(The course is only available in French but the assessment test is available in English)
Mandatory, whatever your practice field
As of September 1st, 2012 and until May 15th, 2013 inclusively, all members of the Order will have to have successfully completed the course.
Members registered as retired on the Order’s roll and those that have successfully completed their professional exam between September 1st, 2011 and May 15th, 2013, are dispensed from taking the course.
Allowable under Regulation on continuing education
These 2.5 hours will be entered in your file and recorded for the base period during which the training was successfully completed. The first base period ends March 31st, 2013.
