    The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and its foundation present over $60,000 in awards and scholarships to engineering students

    • Montreal, March 22, 2012 – The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and its foundation, the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec Foundation, presented $63,000 in awards and scholarships to engineering students during the Foundation’s very first award ceremony, which was held on Wednesday, March 21st, at the Saint-James Club in Montreal. The OIQ presented these awards and scholarships in order to encourage the next generation of engineers.
    • Maud Cohen, Eng., President of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, presented the Bourse d’excellence aux études supérieures and the Prix universitaires du Mérite to engineering students who are members of the OIQ’s Student Section and whose academic results and social and community commitment reflect the values of the profession:
       
      • Jean-Michel Dussault, a graduate mechanical engineering student at Université Laval, received the Bourse d’excellence aux études supérieures presented by Gestion Férique, which is worth $7,500;
      • Anne-Marie Lanouette, a mechanical engineering student at the École Polytechnique de Montréal, received the first Prix universitaire du Mérite, worth $7,500;
      • Jonathan Lipsitz, a chemical engineering student at McGill University, received the second Prix universitaire du Mérite presented by TD Assurance Meloche Monnex, which is worth $5,000;
      • Hyder Khadim, an industrial engineering student at Concordia University, received the third Prix universitaire du Mérite presented by National Bank, which is worth $3,000;

       

      Zaki Ghavitian, Eng., President of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec Foundation then presented the Scholarships for the Future, which are eight $5,000 scholarships intended to provide financial support to undergraduate engineering students:

      • Benoit Auclair, a biomedical engineering student at the École Polytechnique de Montréal;
      • Christine Berthiaux, a water engineering student at Université Laval;
      • Simon Campeau, a mechanical engineering student at the Université de Sherbrooke;
      • Catherine G. Couturier, an industrial engineering student at the École Polytechnique de Montréal;
      • Laurent Doré-Mathieu, a physical engineering student at the École Polytechnique de Montréal;
      • Katherine Doyon, an electrical engineering student at the Université de Sherbrooke;
      • Pascal Genest-Richard, a bioresource engineering student at McGill University;
      • Pierre-Luc Paradis, a mechanical engineering student at the Université du Québec à Rimouski.


      Thanks to the generosity of engineers and its partners, the Foundation is planning to support a larger number of students next year by increasing the number of Scholarships for the Future that will be presented in 2013.
