If you hold a valid and full engineering permit from an association recognized by Engineers Canada, you may be eligible to practice in Quebec. To do so, you’ll need to apply for a permit from the OIQ, which regulates the engineering profession in Quebec. This page outlines the process for applying for a permit for those who are already members of another canadian association.
The status of “member of another Canadian association” does not apply to EIT or engineer-in-training permit holders. You’ll need to apply for admission based on your profile. You can consult the Preadmission Guide for an overview of the steps you need to take to practice engineering in Québec.
A specific admission process allows you to obtain an engineering permit in Québec. See the page dedicated to Canadian graduates trained outside of Quebec.
Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for your application to be processed, and evaluated.
The OIQ will make the necessary verifications with the association that issued your permit to practice. We will then inform you if additional documents are required.
As a guide, if you are already a member of another Canadian engineering association, the initial application fee is approximately $560. You will also be required to pay the annual membership fee, as is the case for all members registered with the OIQ. See our fee schedule for more details.
